What is OPEN?
We are a city-wide network of progressive organizations that have come together to ensure that a progressive vision drives the decisions and plans that lie ahead for our city.

Each year, we meet to accomplish the following:

Gather strategic, timely and progressive policy solutions into a Progressive Platform that will concretely improve the quality of life for the people of Oakland

Host timely trainings and briefings on issues that directly impact our member organizations

OPEN is one part of a long-term strategy to build progressive political power in Oakland by engaging more and more organizations in envisioning and creating a future based on progressive values. As part of that strategy, we have developed and adopted a platform of progressive policy solutions that we hope our local elected officials will support and implement.

Our member organizations represent parents; youth; African-Americans, Indigenous people and other people of color; labor, environmental and immigrant justice advocates; and other political groups. Currently, the combined members of OPEN represent more than 28,000 Oakland residents, and more than 44,000 people in the region.
