My
schedule is too packed – why would I attend another meeting?
OPEN is different – it is not a string of long, unproductive meetings with endless bickering or unhealthy group dynamics. We provide an effective infrastructure based on transparency and integrity. Bringing together many groups to articulate a shared platform is an ambitious goal. The OPEN process was designed to create a highly functional space for organizations to collaborate, negotiate and strengthen their relationships to each other.
For example, by establishing early-on clear boundaries, a code of conduct, and a transparent way to make decisions and work through disagreements, OPEN members were able to complete the 2006 Progressive Platform in a series of four meetings that lasted less than 3 hours each.
What does my organization get out of OPEN?
Membership in OPEN offers these concrete benefits:
1. Access to like-minded progressive organizations from all major sectors of social justice work
2. Access to elected officials and candidates
3. Strategic trainings (e.g., how to talk with media, understanding city politics) and in-depth
workshops on timely issues (e.g. sustainable development, education, etc.)
4. Opportunity to advance policy-development skills
5. Real experience of a highly functional and transparent group process
